Soft Pastels on Velour/Suede Portrait Pricelist

Children's Portraits - Soft Pastels on Velour/Suede Portrait Pricelist

Charcoal Portrait Pricelist

The difference between the price structure of my Charcoal art work and my soft pastel paintings are 1-2 layers of charcoal pencils compared to soft pastels which include 4 or more layers of pastels resulting in a more luminous life like painting.

Sizes and prices above represent inside frame sizes (the actual art work image would be about 2 to 3 inches smaller) to fit these frame dimensions. See our Framing Page for additional framing ideas.

Please note: The prices listed above are for commissioned portraits painted on simple classic toned backgrounds in either: Tan, Grey, Rose or Blue, if you would like a custom portrait with an extensive detailed background please indicate as it will be extra depending on the amount of detail you require. (example: of an extensive detailed background would be a feline portrait of a cat curled up in a chair with the sun shining through a lace curtained window in the background) Prices listed also do not reflect horses with complete tack, harness or riders. Please contact me for individual quotes on any custom portrait ideas you may have that would include a rider, extensive detail for tack and or full backgrounds.

For double images in one portrait you would divide the price in half of the image size you would like and add to the total price. Example you would like 2 pets in one 16x20 portrait, you would take 650.00 cost divide in half = 325.00 than add to portrait price so for two pets in a 16x20 size pastel portrait on suede or velour would be 975.00 if you would like a 3rd pet add additional 150.00.

I accept payments by personal checks, Paypal and money orders. Payment plans are available please inquire if you are interested. Framing and shipping is extra. For insured UPS ground, shipping and handling in the USA is usually 10% of the price of commissioned art work especially if art work is framed and shipped with picture glass.

Frequently Asked Questions about Portraits

The following is a list of frequently asked questions I receive when commissioning or custom ordering a portrait:

Can you work from photographs? Yes, but please understand, good quality, clear reference photos are needed to produce that special portrait everyone enjoys. (the clearer the pictures are the better the painting will be) I prefer taking my own photographs whenever possible, but in the case of deceased animal companions, time constraints also travelling distances outside the New England area may make it impossible, so I have included tips on photographing your animals. These tips will make it easy for you to take your own reference shots for your commissioned portraits.

Copyrighted Professional Photographs can be utilized for reference as long as you obtain a copyright release from the photographer (the copyrighted release is a signed note from the photographer giving me permission to use his or her photographs as reference material for your commissioned portrait) and mail me a copy along with the reference photographs you wish me to use.

If you have any questions about the quality of your photos please e-mail or mail them to me and I will let you know if I can work from them. If you would prefer me to photograph your animals for you please call or email me to set up an appointment. I charge a flat fee of $25.00 per hour for all photo shoots within a 100 mile radius of my studio. Within 7 business days I will email you the best photographs taken and you may make the final decision on which pose you would like to use for reference for your portrait.

When you decide you would like me to paint your pet’s portrait, I will mail or e-mail you a copy of my Commission Agreement. You will need to fill it out and sign the bottom and return it to me along with your 50% deposit in a check or money order. Once I receive it I will call or email you and mail you your copy of the agreement with the projected finish date entered, & will start working on your portrait next.

All photos are returned to you along with your finished portrait unharmed. The average portrait takes me about 2 -3 weeks depending on the size, medium and if a background is included. Once I have the portrait just about finished I leave it for a few days and go back to it and see if I have missed some aspect of the portrait that may need improvements. Then I will email or mail you a digital copy of the portrait for your approval; and will make the necessary adjustments if needed to meet my “Satisfaction Guarantee” clause. Once you have approved the finished work and I have received the balance due I will ship your portrait fully insured through UPS ground and you will receive it within 1-2 weeks. UPS assures ground shipment in the USA from coast to coast within 7 to 10 business days.

Please note: the artist retains all copyright of the commissioned artwork and in the future I may decide to use some of my commissioned portraits to be reproduced as my favorites on greeting cards and or calendars. I also retain all rights to display the commissioned artwork for advertising on my website and or brochures.

All artwork is mounted and framed using only archival quality materials to ensure many years of enjoyment. “Animals in Pastels” gift certificates are available for that special someone on your gift list. All gift certificates are good for one year from date of purchase. I accept orders for commissioned portraits from January to the end of April and generally work on my own projects from May through November.

If you have any questions or would like to commission your own portrait please contact us.
